Is Hypnosis Suitable For Everyone?

If you are one of 70% of the population, you may be wondering if you can be hypnotized.

The answer to your question is yes, you can.

Because hypnosis is not what is depicted in Hollywood movies (a.k.a mind control to make you do things uncontrollably). It is also not what we see in hypnosis stage shows (a.k.a making a fool of yourself in front of many people). Thankfully, huh?

Hypnosis in a nutshell

Hypnosis is actually a very simple feeling. I know that just today you probably experienced a state of hypnosis when you woke up in the morning. Think of that in-between state when you are not falling fully asleep but also you're not fully awake. That's what hypnosis is.

We also feel a state similar to that when we drive on the freeway for a long time and then all of a sudden we either miss our exit or we arrive at our destination without even realizing that we were actually driving this whole time!

Another example is when you watch a movie with full attention. When you watch a movie so carefully like that, you may find yourself crying, laughing or maybe someone calls your name you don't even hear. That’s because you allowed this movie to influence your mind for a short time even though you know that it's not real.

That's exactly what hypnosis is. It's mostly a deep physical relaxation, mental calmness and a deep focus on a hypnotherapist's voice. In other words, I know that you tried hypnosis before but we all experience it in a completely different way.

Are you hypnotizable?

Everyone is hypnotizable but the experiences are different.

Some people let go of the need for control so much easier, some people have more vivid experiences, and some people have a physical experience instead. So even though we know that you are hypnotizable we don't really know how you are going to experience hypnosis.

Probably this is why they say about 20 percent of the population is more suggestible to hypnosis than others. Because some people have a slightly better ability to visualize better and let go easier. But this doesn't necessarily determine success with hypnosis.

We are all very unique!

It's also important to note that we are all very different from each other. It wouldn't be realistic to expect that we are all gonna have the same exact hypnosis experience.

Think about it, some of us fall asleep within seconds while some of us need to relax before going to bed. Just like when we sleep or on countless other life experiences, we respond and react differently to situations.

For some people, hypnosis may happen very quickly. They may let go and find themselves in a good deep state of hypnosis easily.

But for some people, it may take some training. Perhaps it may take a few sessions for them to get comfortable with the whole process which would still be considered very normal.

Overall, regardless of how you feel during hypnosis, know that you are hypnotizable, and don’t be shy to give hypnotherapy a chance!
