How Many Hypnosis Sessions Do You Need?
When you consider hypnotherapy as an option for improving yourself, tons of questions start flooding the mind. This one is definitely one of the most common questions I receive - If you have more questions about hypnosis and hypnotherapy, visit my frequently asked questions page- :
How many hypnosis sessions do I need?
As hypnotherapists, there have been times when we've seen a client only for one session and they received the help needed and were able to move on. We’ve also seen a lot of clients who we had to see over and over again to help them comprehensively during their journey.
Both of the scenarios are completely normal and expected.
1 session or multiple sessions?
I think the important point here is to be open-minded to receive help in one session simply because of the fact that it is a possibility. It's been possible for so many people, therefore, it is possible for you as well.
At the same time, don’t get stuck on that possibility because sometimes -actually most of the time- it may take more than one session to receive the help that you're looking for.
Think about it. Many of the issues that we deal with, we've been dealing with them for a long time in life. So it's not really logical or realistic to expect those issues to disappear after just one hypnotherapy session.
Hypnotherapy is not a magic stick, nor it can forcefully change your mind. It's a form of subconscious reprogramming and subconsciously changing the way you’ve been. This can only happen with internalizing the changes that you’d like to have in your life.
What’s realistic to expect?
In my hypnotherapy sessions, I usually tell my clients to leave the door open for “one-session transformation” (I like to call it this way!) because I think that's always a magical possibility that we all would live to achieve!
At the same time, based on whatever issue you're working on we can sometimes guess how many sessions we may need. For example, when someone seeks hypnotherapy to stop smoking, the process may take a relatively short time. We may expect one session, two sessions, or three sessions but probably we do not need multiple weeks.
In another scenario, think that you're working on weight loss with hypnosis. Hypnotherapy for weight loss tends to be a long-term process because not only we are working on the mind-body connection but also we are working on improving your diet, your subconscious self-image and even breaking any emotional eating issues.
Wrapping up
In other words, based on your issue, the number of sessions that you can expect will definitely change. If you talk to your hypnotherapist, they can give you a range of how many sessions you should expect.
Most likely they're not going to tell you that “it's going to take you five sessions” to heal from whatever issue you're dealing with. They may give you more of a range of how many sessions it takes for someone to see results based on their experience.
Always keep in mind that you are completely different and unique than every single person that we have ever worked with. Regardless of how many sessions we may tell you in the beginning your journey may still be completely different than expected!
