Can You Do Hypnosis Online?
Nowadays, we do everything online. Can we even do hypnosis online?
The answer is, YES.
If you associate hypnotherapy with stage shows and Hollywood movies, you may be thinking that hypnosis won’t work online. How can you paralyze someone without even being in the same room with them? Or how can you control someone’s mind without even looking into their eyes hypnotically?
If these are the questions you have in mind, probably you don’t have the right information about hypnotherapy, how it works, and the effectiveness of online sessions.
How does hypnosis work?
One of the first things I always stress in my blogs, sessions, or basically anywhere, is that hypnotherapy is probably not what you think it is. Let me just say, it’s definitely not similar to what you see in Hollywood movies.
Hypnosis is actually a very familiar state to all of us. We all experience different states of hypnosis throughout the day. Think dozing off or daydreaming. During these states, we may feel more focused and physically relaxed.
In other words, hypnotherapy is a state of physical relaxation, mental calmness, and a deep focus in the mind. A hypnotherapist usually creates this state by leading the person verbally. Sometimes even without realizing it, we may be taking in suggestions from the hypnotherapist. At the end of the hypnosis, with the guidance of the hypnotherapist, you will probably find yourself feeling calmer, more relaxed, and mentally refreshed.
The most important part of hypnosis takes place in your mind. So, wherever you are, as long as your hypnotherapist is qualified to guide you and help you, you will be able to receive the benefits of hypnosis fully.
How effective online hypnotherapy sessions are?
Online hypnotherapy sessions can be done through Zoom or via other teletherapy resources. So far, Zoom has been very secure, easy to use, and practical for both practitioners and clients.
The effectiveness of online hypnosis sessions is just the same as in-person hypnotherapy sessions. After all, during a hypnotherapy session, there is no part or technique that will require you to be face-to-face with the hypnotherapist.
You will get the same experience, effectiveness, and results with an online hypnotherapy session in comparison to an in-person hypnotherapy session.
What is the difference between an online hypnotherapy session and an in-person hypnotherapy session?
So far, it sounds like in-person and online hypnotherapy sessions are pretty much the same. However, there are a few slight differences as well.
For example, during an in-person hypnosis session, you may feel more tense and nervous since you are doing something very unknown with someone new in an interesting hypnotherapy office. On the other hand, during online sessions, you may naturally feel more relaxed since you are in your home, basically in your zone.
Another example is that, for online sessions, you will need to find a spot that’s not noisy and there is no foot traffic, which may be hard to find at home these days since kids and pets may want to be around. However, in-person sessions take place in the office setting of the hypnotherapist which is a purposefully prepared calming environment.
Finally, it could be easier to find a time slot that works the best for you for online sessions. Hypnotherapists tend to accommodate special time requests for online sessions more. When it comes to in-person sessions it may be a bit different. Your only chance will be the regular working hours of the hypnotherapist.
What equipment is needed for online sessions?
It is important to prepare and set yourself comfortably for online sessions in order to get the best results. Usually, experienced hypnotherapists will guide you about what to look for and what to check before settling in for the session.
For one -and probably the most important thing of all-, make sure to settle yourself in a place where you will be able to relax and be calm. Make sure that your spot is not noisy or there is a door that you can close so nobody walks in and out.
I recommend sitting down at first. We start the session with a therapeutic discussion. During this time you can sit down on a chair, couch or even lean on the headboard of a bed. However, you will need a place to lay down during the hypnosis part. Ideally, you can lay down on a recliner. Considering many people don’t have recliners, we can also benefit from other options such as a bed, couch, or even the floor!
Before you start the session, make sure to turn your phone off or switch it to airplane mode. Even the buzzing noise of the vibration can be a distraction. Check your internet and make sure that you are connected to a stable internet source. And finally, make sure that your device is charged or plugged in.
I also recommend wearing comfortable clothes and having a blanket ready for you if you find that you get cold easily. That way, the blanket will be within your reach.
At first, these may sound too much. But they really don’t require any effort and they are merely reminders of the things that you may have forgotten.
